Join the Procession

Our fabulous procession is a focal point for Carnival Day.

Hundreds or people take part in the mile long spectacle, including community groups, schools and sponsor organisations such as Oxford Brookes University and the Indonesian Embassy also take part.

We are running a series of workshops to help schools and community groups to plan and get the most out of their involvement.

2017 heralded the most multi-cultural procesion yet – a glorious celebration of the colourful lives and communities found here in Oxford.

Each year we announce a theme for the procession and it provides an opportunity to be really creative with costumes, banners and props, get dressed up, get involved and enjoy seeing Carnival from the inside. In some cases we can arrange workshops with experienced carnival artists and dancers to help your group look fantastic and move with confidence and style.

We especially welcome any musical groups which can perform on the move.

Our Carnival procession is fossil-fuel-free, so feet, pedals, batteries and wheels power the procession and any other ingenious method of moving along the road and making sound without burning fossil fuels is welcome!

The most recent Carnival theme was ‘Industry and technology’ and Carnival 2018 will be icons of art.
