Cowley Road Works organises the Cowley Road Carnival in East Oxford in July each year. The core aim of the charity is to celebrate community through culturally diverse arts, events and education.
The Carnival is one of the South East’s largest multicultural, community-led arts events and takes place in the Cowley Road and South Park areas of the City. A fusion between street carnival and outdoor arts festival, it is a celebration of the rich cultural diversity of the East Oxford area, and a showcase for artistic talent, incorporating processions, stages, street performance, sound systems, arts workshops, food and stalls.
We want to maintain the momentum and spirit of Carnival (now in its tenth year) and ensure that it continues to flourish in 2011 and in the future. This is especially challenging in light of a substantial reduction in Local Authority funding. We need to find funding from a variety of sources to enable Cowley Road Works to deliver a Carnival which will attract at least 60,000 visitors across two sites in 2011 and to work with a wide range of partner organisations to encourage and support involvement and participation of a wide range of people from across Oxford and beyond. It will also help to build a sustainable future for Carnival.
If you have enjoyed coming to Carnival and would like to help ensure that it flourishes in 2011 and beyond, please consider making a donation to support its future. Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated and really will make a difference.
