Carnival Day is as much a celebration of our successful partnerships as it is of our community. Cowley Road Works partners with a wide variety of organisations in a number of highly productive collaborations.
The support and grant from Oxford City Council has been instrumental in funding for Carnival. In addition Cowley Road Works has previously received grants and donations from the following:
Pegasus' dance tutors contribute to pre Carnival workshops in schools to prepare the groups to move with style and confidence in the Carnival procession. Pegasus also hosts many of our meetings and acts as our headquarters and office address on the Magdalen Road.
Artists coordinated by Fusion Arts lead creative making in schools' workshops in preparation for the Carnival procession.
Oxford University Museums
Host visit for schools to inspire them in their preparations for the Carnival procession. They also provide art and craft activities for all the family with an opportunity to handle objects from the museums' collections at the Carnival event.
Alice's Day, produced by The Story Museum, is held on the Saturday prior to Carnival Day, and Cowley Road Works has established a productive relationship which in 2014 and 2015 included working on a joint printed programme, banners and other publicity opportunities for the weekend.
Young Women's Music Project
Young Women's Music Project hosted the programming for the Kate Garrett Stage featuring young performers at Carnival.
We have previously forged partnerships with promoters, including:
Dancin' Oxford programmed the Manzil Gardens Stage for most of the afternoon for Carnival 2014, delivering an expanded programme.
Asian Cultural Centre
The Asian Cultural Association supports the Carnival organisers year round with meeting space and provides a satellite space during the Carnival event for family and other activity and performance.
St Mary & St John Church
Regularly hosts family activities in the church yard during Carnival, and the end of the Carnival procession. The church also hosted prayer and reflection space inside the church, providing an opportunity for people to find escape from the busy Carnival to creatively pray or reflect using a number of activities planned by local churches, including Emmanuel Church Oxford, Oxford Vineyard Church, and Greyfriars Roman Catholic Church
Church members have helped with fundraising activities, including their Gospel Choir singing carols for Christmas shoppers at Sainsbury's at the John Allen Centre with a collection for Carnival. They were also a core group of our wonderful event volunteers at Carnival 2014 and 2015.
